This ruling came six months after President Joe Biden imposed a pause on the permitting of new LNG terminals. šļø

āļø The Biden administration now faces a critical decision: whether to appeal the ruling to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. While a White House spokesperson expressed disappointment with the ruling, they deferred questions about an appeal to the Department of Justice, which has yet to comment.
š§āāļø Judge James Cain, appointed by former President Donald Trump, criticized the Biden administration's decision, describing it as "completely without reason or logic." The judge highlighted the economic and national security impacts, as well as the potential increase in pollution from foreign energy sources. š
The Biden Administration's Stance
š± Despite the ruling, the administration remains committed to basing decisions on rigorous economic and environmental analysis. The pause on LNG terminal permitting was initially implemented to assess the climate impact of LNG exports. While natural gas burns cleaner than coal, methane leaks during production and transportation significantly affect its environmental footprint, especially in the short term. ā½
